Detox, or detoxification, refers to ridding the body of toxic substances. This may involve a detox programme to help wean a person from alcohol or drug dependency. It may also describe a detox diet aimed at cleansing toxins from the body, caused by pollution, smoking, food additives and more. Different detox methods include: a strict diet limited to foods such as raw vegetables or juices; fasting; colonic irrigation; massage or a supplement regime.
