Jext adrenalin injector pen recall

WebMD UK Health News
Medically Reviewed by Dr Rob Hicks

9th December 2013 – The medicines regulator MHRA is asking people who suffer severe allergic reactions who use a Jext adrenalin injector pen to check the batch numbers after a fault was discovered by the manufacturer.

Some needles in the pens may have become bent and might not deliver the right dose of adrenalin when required.

People with injectors from the affected batches are advised to make an appointment with their GP as soon as possible to discuss changing to an alternative product.

In the meantime, the MHRA says people should continue to carry their existing injectors as prescribed.

Jext adrenalin injectors

Jext is a single-use adrenaline auto-injector intended for the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis from allergies such as insect stings or bites, food and drugs.

In a statement, the MHRA’s head of Defective Medicines Reporting Centre, Adam Burgess says: "The number of needles affected by this is very small and we would advise people who use them to continue to carry them as normal. We have not had reports of any incidents with these but urge people to check the batch number and if it is from an affected batch make an appointment with their GP as soon as possible to discuss alternatives."

At present, the only alternative product available is the Epipen. To make sure there are enough supplies of Epipen, MHRA has approved the importation of some units of the product from the USA. These units are manufactured at the same site as and are identical to the UK approved product. They have been re-packaged with a UK carton and patient information leaflet.
