Mindfulness is a treatment for mental health conditions such as depression using mind-body techniques.

Mindfulness exercises or mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is designed to help people change their thinking and manage their feelings about stressful experiences.

The therapy combines techniques like meditation, breathing exercises and stretching with cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).

The Mental Health Foundation says there's evidence mindfulness meditation can affect how the brain works and boost activity in the pre-frontal cortex of the brain, the part linked with positive emotions.

Mindfulness is used to help treat conditions including:

 

Mindfulness sessions typically take place once a week for two months. Online training is also available.
