Lyme disease directory
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by infected animal ticks. Lyme disease causes a bull's eye shaped rash and sometimes arthritis symptoms. There are up to 3,000 cases of Lyme disease in England and Wales each year, with around 15% of infections happening while the person was abroad. The ticks that cause Lyme disease are found in woodland and heathland areas. In addition to causing arthritis, Lyme disease can also cause heart, brain and nerve problems.
