Detox, or detoxification, refers to ridding the body of toxic substances. This may involve a detox programme to help wean a person from alcohol or drug dependency. It may also describe a detox diet aimed at cleansing toxins from the body, caused by pollution, smoking, or food additives, for instance. Different detox methods include a strict diet limited to foods such as raw vegetables or juices, fasting, colonic irrigation, massage, or a supplement regime.
