Depression affects about one in 10 of us at some point in our lives, with one in 50 developing severe depression. Our Depression Guide has the information you need to understand the condition -- the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and complications of depression such as pain perception, sexual problems, and sleep disturbances.

Depression carries a high risk of suicide. Anybody who expresses suicidal thoughts or intentions should be taken very seriously. Do not hesitate to call your local suicide hotline immediately. You can also call the Samaritans at 08457 90 90 90 or 1850 60 90 90 in the Republic of Ireland (24-hour helplines).

We want to hear from you.
